The CB Group UWI 5K and Smart Eggs Kids K will return to a road race format on Sunday, November 20, on the University of the West Indies Mona campus, after two years of going virtual because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The event, which was launched at the UWI Regional Headquarters recently, is the major fundraiser for the University of the West Indies in collaboration with title sponsor CB Group and other sponsoring partners for the past 10 years. Another 20 students are being granted scholarships to pursue their dreams of obtaining tertiary education.

Twenty students pursuing tertiary education at The University of the West Indies, can now breathe a sigh of relief as to how they will be able to finance their education, having received scholarships to complete their areas of study. The batch of scholarships was again made possible through the annual major fund raising event facilitated over the last 10 years by title sponsor CB Group in collaboration with The University of the West Indies and other generous corporate partners.

The presentation was made to the students at the launch of the 2022 CB Group UWI 5K and Smart Eggs Kids...

Olympic champion Hansle Parchment has called for more sports scholarships to be given to students of The University of West Indies and even from proceeds of the upcoming 10th Annual CB Group UWI 5K and Smart Eggs Kids K.

Parchment, who won gold in the 110m hurdles at the recent Olympic Games in Tokyo, was honoured at Wednesday's virtual media launch and urged the university to seek more “balance” to make it more attractive to people overseas.

The event, which will be held virtually for the second year between October 24 and November 25, aims to raise “much needed funds for...

Jhevonte Webster receiving the CB Group UWI 5K/Khadene “Miss Kitty” Hylton Scholarship being presented on her behalf by Moses “Beenie Man” Davis. The presentation took place at the launch of the 5K fund raising event on October 2 at the UWI Regional Headquarters.

Jhevonte Webster could have believed that it was all doom and gloom because of his circumstance living in a community in the western end of St Andrew, sometimes blighted with crime and negative elements which has affected the innercity for decades.

That was the grim legacy facing him, and which he has been able to overcome, thanks to the help of the CB Group UWI Scholarship Fund and, more specifically, some help from a noted media personality. Jhevonte is the 2019 recipient of the Khadine “Miss Kitty” Hylton Scholarship, through which he is pursuing an undergraduate degree in...

When dancehall entertainer Moses “Beenie Man” Davis walked onto the Mona campus of The University of the West Indies for the launch of the CB Group UWI 5K on Wednesday, October 2, some of his fans could not help but try to get his attention.

But the entertainer was on a different mission. Beenie Man was there to take over the microphone, not for one of his sizzling performances, but to deliver a scholarship to second-year UWI culture and entertainment student Renae Edwards.

When asked how she felt about receiving the scholarship, Edwards blurted out in...

Alfred “Frano” Francis, race director, CB Group/UWI 5K, addresses the launch of the event last Wednesday at The UWI Regional Office. Scholarships were also distributed to students for the 2019-2020 school year. Looking on is Elizabeth Buchanan-Hind (left), chair of the fund-raising event to raise funds for students wishing to pursue tertiary education, but in need of financial assistance.

It was a morning for inspiration, and the launch of the eighth annual CB Group/UWI 5K, last Wednesday at The University of the West Indies' (UWI) Regional Headquarters in Kingston began fittingly with a testimony from a successful former recipient.

Emcee and CB/UWI 5K Ambassador Jezeel Martin held the audience rapt with his life journey from the gritty streets of August Town to the halls of the university and the gilded corridors of one of Kingston's legendary law firms, a journey made possible in no small part by the CB/UWI 5K scholarship award.
